Barbara Vivian Atwell

Barbara Vivian Atwell was born August 21, 1936 to George Andrew and Jewel Viola (Ewing) Ward in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. She passed away in her Sapulpa Home on May 18, 2012.
She married Billy Wayne Atwell on August 14, 1955 in her family home south of Bristow, Oklahoma. She and Bill were married 50 years and two months, until his death October 11, 2005. To this union five children were born, Kathy, Gary, Darrell, Rhonda, and Michael. She was a bookkeeper for Universal Well Service in their early married life and enjoyed her time working at Lawson’s Grocery. But mostly, she was a homemaker, proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading trading books with her sisters, crossword puzzles, quilting, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Nuyaka Baptist Church.
Barbara was survived by two daughters, Kathy Shields and her husband, Gene of Okemah, OK and Rhonda Dobbs of the Sapulpa home; three sons, Gary Atwell and his wife, Paula of Bristow, Oklahoma, Darrell Atwell and his wife, Cheryl of Okemah; and Michael Atwell and his wife, Tammy of Mounds, Oklahoma; two sisters, Wanda Johnson of Seminole, Oklahoma and Geneva Davidson of Bristow, Oklahoma; one brother, Jim Ward and his wife, Glenda of Bristow, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jewel Ward; her husband, Bill; one brother, J.W. Ward and his wife, Betty; one sister, Jeweldean Martin and her husband, Lon; two brother-in-laws, Rudy Johnson and Jerry Davidson; and two great-grandchildren, Heavenlee Ann Rose Clark and Jeremy Ray Shields.
Funeral services will be 2pm, Monday, May 21, 2012 at Hutchins-Maples Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Nancy Dodson officiating. Interment will follow in Bristow City Cemetery.
